I am a geek that works for one of the greatest, most impactful non-profit organizations around – Teen Challenge. I get to utilize my gifts and talents to help put hope within reach of the addicted population. Believe me, at times, it is hard to see the impact that my work produces, but when I look around and hear all of the testimonies of people that are overcoming addiction – one of the world’s greatest strongholds – it is very apparent that what I do matters.
Currently, I serve as the IT Manager and am in charge of the IT Department. In the non-profit world, I believe that IT operates a little differently than the for-profit sector. Since all of our funds are raised, we have to be extra careful how we steward our budget. This is a great challenge at times, but nevertheless, it always works out. I do all sorts of things from web developing to infrastructure to network security to graphic design (yes, I know this is outside the scope of IT, but hey… it’s good to break the rules sometimes). One of the joys of my jobs is the diversity of work that I perform. It keeps me interested and always learning.
So, enough about work… I also have the greatest family on the face of the earth. I have a lovely wife, Melissa, who I married in May, of 2011, and a beautiful baby boy, Ethan, who was born in August, of 2014. My wife keeps me on my toes and challenges me to be the best person I can. She is full of love and puts up with me on a daily basis (she really deserves some sort of prize for this). Ethan is the most awesome little boy and has absolutely captivated our hearts. We live in Columbus, GA (really, it’s Phenix City, AL, but nobody knows where that is, so we say Columbus, GA) and we love our city. We have a beautiful Uptown area, the world’s largest urban white-water rafting and the best coffee shops around. We could live here for a long time.
